DKN RoadRunner Treadmill Review

Best UK Price              Specification              Pros and Cons              Reviewers Ratings

DKN RoadRunner Treadmill reviewThe DKN RoadRunner certainly is a substantial treadmill that brings the feeling of a gym machine to the home . This is  a no nonsense treadmill with a premium feel.

First hint of the power of the motor in this treadmill comes when hitting the start button to first give it a go - the belt starts moving very slowly and the 2.5 HP continuous duty motor is almost silent!

The RoadRunner is fitted with a 3.3mm orthopedic running belt and features a particularly responsive deck. The combination of the belt, deck and elastometer cushioning make for an absolutely fantastic running surface - nicely cushioned to look after the joints without feeling mushy.

The treadmill has a top speed of 20 kph (about 12.5 mph) and offers 15 levels of powered incline. The running deck is nice and big and the the machine itself weighing in at over 105kg, it feels solid and sturdy when being used. Upon closer inspection of the details of the treadmill, it's clear that DKN have chosen high quality components with this treadmill. The rollers are nice and big, the handlebars have a nice rubber feeling, there are anti-split strips on the siderails and the list just goes on!

The console on the treadmill is large and very clearly organised. There is a large, easy to read back-lit LCD display at the center which is divided into segments. Smaller segments along the left side and bottom of the display provide standard information such as speed, incline, exercise duration, calories consumed and heart rate whilst there is a decent sized segment on the top right which displays a quarter mile (400m) track and when needed is used to scroll instructions to the user. In terms of controlling the speed and incline, there are one-touch keys on the console as buttons on the handlebar.

The computer allows two users to store their details (age, weight, height, gender) and this info is used to improve the accuracy of the estimated calorie consumption during the exercise session.

Lucky owners of a RoadRunner treadmill certainly won't be bored as a result of lack of programme variety. In addition to the standard manual programme, there are 24 pre-set programmes which control both the speed and incline of the treadmill. For each of these pre-set programmes, the user can set the duration of the programme to fit in with their training plan. In addition, there are two user-defined programmes and a heart rate controlled programme.

The heart rate control programme requires the use of a Polar compatible chest belt and takes the user through an initial warm up, then varies the speed and incline of the treadmill every 10-15 seconds based on the user's heart rate in order to help the user stay close to the target heart rate entered at the start of the programme. We're big fans of HRC programmes as they help greatly with goal-specific training.

The speakers are also pretty decent for a treadmill and the treadmill folds to a surprisingly compact size. As expected, the folding mechanism has a hydraulic soft drop.

In summary, this is a serious treadmill which is perfect for those that want a powerful treamill with high quality components, rather than gadgets and gimmicks. Intuitive and easy to use, this is a machine that you'd expect to pay substantially more for!
