Horizon T83 Treadmill Review

The Horizon T83 treadmill has a distinctive style you’ll either love or hate.

The console is huge! We felt like Captain Kirk when faced with this space-aged control panel and blue screens, although it’s probably a lot easier to use than the one in the SS Enterprise :0) We liked the one-touch buttons to change speed and incline. This is a useful feature and far easier to alter settings when running fast rather than having to scroll down through the speeds.

Once you’ve got past the impact of the console the best feature of the T83 becomes obvious – it’s under your feet. The variable cushioning system make it a treat to run on. You can alter the shock absorption to get a softer feel under where your foot lands and a harder deck from where you foot kicks off. This helps to put a spring in your stride whilst reducing the impact of on your joints. The thick orthopedic belt adds to the comfort. The deck is wide enough for comfort but if you’re over 6′ 3″ you might find it a little short for your stride length.

The 2.5 motor is quiet and even at top speeds seems well within its limits. The motor is covered for life under the warranty so you get an idea how confident Horizon are of its reliability.

The 16 pre-set programmes are varied enough with the usual weightloss, interval, hills, 5k and 10k workouts. There is also a more unusual 9-hole and 18-hole golf course run – so you can try something a little different without getting kicked out of the local golf club! Note, there are no heart rate controlled programmes but you can always track you pulse via the window on the console. However, whilst it has hand-grips to measure your pulse it doesn’t have a built-in polar chip that would allow you to wear a chest strap.

Other features include long handles which can be re-assuring when at top speed if you need them. There is also a port for your MP3 to use with the built-in speakers which is great if you like to run to music.

It comes with an excellent warranty. It has lifetime on the frame AND motor, plus 3 years for everything else.

Review Summary - In Brief

The Horizon T83 is a distinctive machine and easily stands out in a showroom with its large console. If you like big, high tech looking machines you'll love this one. The deck is very comfortable with variable cushioning to make running on it easier by reducing the impact on your joints. The variation in the 16 pre-set programmes will keep most happy although there are no heart rate controlled workouts. All in all it's a great machine with plenty to offer anyone with a fitness target to achieve.
