The York Fitness T301 Diamond treadmill is the entry model to the Diamond range and they don't call it that for nothing! York have pulled all the stops out on this one and we were pretty impressed by the result.
York describe it as 'high speed, high performance and high comfort' and we'd just about agree with their ad people on that. Its top speed of 11 mph should challenge most runners especially if you tilt the deck up to the top notch on 12% incline.
The 2.5 HP motor is smooth and relatively quiet at the top end and you can rest assured that it's a quality motor because York are happy to cover it for 10 years under its warranty. Now there's a sign of their faith in it.
The running deck is wide and feels comfortable with its adjustable cushion system so you can choose just how much you want to reduce the impact on your joints.
We like the ability to select the shock absorption amount because if you're training for running on the road you don't want the deck to be too 'soft' as it will be a bit of a surprise to your legs when you pound the pavements. Whereas if you're currently overweight or recovering from an injury it's good to be able to gently introduce yourself to running.
The T301 comes with a good selection of 20 programmes including the ever popular heart rate controlled options to keep you training in your optimum results zone for fitness and weightloss. Unlike some other brands this model comes with the chest strap included so you can use the wireless telemetric heart rate sensor to monitor your pulse. This is more preferable than having to hold the grips that not only break your stride but are also less accurate.
Variation in your training is key to getting to your fitness targets and with 20 programmes to choose from your interest and motivation should be maintained.
The console is well laid out and has a large, backlit LCD window plus 3 smaller LED windows to display everything you need to know. The console also has a port for your MP3 player and built-in speakers which is a nice touch.
In this price range there is some tough competition, namely from models by NordicTrack and Tunturi which boast similar features.
The warranty is excellent. It covers the motor for 10 years and everything else for 2 years.

In brief:
YorK Fitness is a tried and tested name in the exercise world and you know that you'll get a reliable and durable machine with them. We liked the T301 a lot and were split down the middle on how it matched up against its rivals. The Nordictrack C2500 does have more to offer with its iFit Training Software and is around £80 cheaper, but some of us felt the T301 had that quality feel that's hard to quantify. It doesn't matter how much we try to be logic, in the end we make the decision with our heart and maybe the T301 shades it over the competition for us on that front. It's a great mill and therefore we have no hesitation in recommending it. |
