Horizon Omega Z Folding Treadmill Review

Horizon Fitness is one of the most venerable of cardio fitness brands out there. A pioneering brand, dedicated to helping individuals of all fitness levels move towards a healthier and more active lifestyle. With a reputation for innovation and an unwavering commitment to producing high-quality products, Horizon Fitness has earned a trusted reputation within the fitness industry. Their product range encompasses an array of top-tier cardio machines that are designed to elevate workout experiences and enable users to reach their fitness goals. Whether you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast or a novice just starting out, their product catalogue has something for you so we took a look at the Horizon Omega Z model to see what one of their mid-range models looks like up close. Here’s what we found…

As usual, before you can go for a run, the Horizon Omega Z needs to be assembled. Unusually, putting this treadmill together is an absolute breeze. Requiring only three assembly steps to get it up and running, the instructions are very clear and easy to follow with well-illustrated diagrams that ensure a hassle-free setup. Once built, this is a really robust bit of kit that feels like it’s going to sail through most things you can throw at it, even during your most intense workouts. Nice!

In terms of looks, the Omega Z really stands out. Boasting a sleek design with subtle accents, and showcasing a practical elegance that will seamlessly complement just about any room this treadmill will fit neatly into most any setting. It really does look quite unique which is something of an accomplishment as lets face it, a lot of treadmills simply look the same! The construction, unsurprisingly, feels robust and this model instils confidence in its durability from the first time you step up onto it.

In terms of the console, the Omega Z features 3 large LED windows that are easy to read and really clear. The display is nice and bright and the characters are large meaning it’ll be easy to see in even very bright lighting conditions. With console feedback delivering training data including time, distance, incline, speed, calories and heart rate, Horizon has kept the feedback simple, clear and relevant which means it’s easy to get the data you want with a quick glance rather than having to focus on the screen. We found this really helps on runs, especially longer ones as you start to tire and sweat starts to become a factor.

There are 19 onboard workouts built into the console providing a really good set of training options. With the workouts being divided into practical and easy to understand categories the Omega Z makes it easy to select the workout that’s going help you reach your goals. Instead of fancy names like ‘rolling hills’ the selection is between manual mode, 4 pulse based options, 3 calory burn based options, 2 interval training based options, 1 weight Loss option, 2 target heart rate workouts, 2 target step based workouts and 3 target distance based options. In addition there’s also 1 custom option that enables you to create and save your own program. We found the workouts enjoyable and varied enough to keep you entertained as well as delivering a workout that really gets the job done. The simple controls mean that it could not be easier to operate too so it’s very much a case of step up and run here, with no fuss at all.

Additionally, the built-in Bluetooth module enables connectivity with your tablet or smartphone, providing access to a whole range of training options outside of those built into the console. We tested KinoMap and Zwift and the experience was smooth and trouble free so a big thumbs up here. Like the look of the tread itself, it’s all simple and slick and we were able to get everything working without any hitches at all.

Away from the console, the running experience itself is first class. The spacious 53 x 140 cm running surface offers ample room to move about, even at higher speeds and as you tire out that extra width feels very good to have. The variable response cushioning cushioning technology provides a very comfortable and supportive landing for your joints while also providing a nice firm surface to launch from. The balance is really good here and make running on this tread a premium experience. This setup should be good for both hardened road runners as well as those out to take care of their joints and want as much shock absorbed as possible.

Don’t let its unassuming appearance fool you, the Horizon Omega Z might not look industrial, instead appearing very domesticated, but it packs a powerful punch. Its 3.0 hp motor delivers more than enough power for everyday home workouts, keeping noise levels at a minimum even during more intense and higher speed training sessions while also helping to ensure a good lifespan. Combine that with a true 12% maximum incline and a top speed of 20 kph (12 mph), and what you get is a treadmill that’s capable of quite easily pushing even very fit runners.

Other features include a Bluetooth Smart heart rate wireless receiver (worked flawlessly during our test), dual water bottle holders, tablet holder, and last but definitely not least, levelling feet that enable you to get the treadmill set up dead flat – which makes a difference!

The Horizon Omega Z comes with a comprehensive 2-year on-site parts and labour warranty for peace of mind. Judging by the way this treadmill has been put together, you probably won’t be needing it, but it’s always good to have.
