NordicTrack T9.5 Treadmill

From humble origins to global corporate machine, NordicTrack has forged its enviable reputation by consistently producing quality running machines that represent good value for money while maintaining high manufacturing standards. With more current models out there than you can shake a stick, there’ll be a NordicTrack treadmill designed with you in mind no matter if you’re a serial marathon runner or a complete newbie to the world of running. In this review we’re taking a close up look at their T9.5 treadmill which is aimed very much at the premium end of the market. Here’s what we found…

With a footprint of 202cm x 91cm (79.5’’ x 35.8’’) the T9.5 isn’t a small treadmill and assembly is definitely a 2-person job. That being said the process is very much standard fare but it is relatively time consuming. There’s nothing complex but there are some awkward steps where you’ll be glad of the sucker, sorry, friend you got to agree to help you build it. All that notwithstanding it takes about an hour to put this machine together but you should probably also allow a good 10 minutes for unwrapping stuff as this treadmill is very well packaged!

The T9.5 benefits from a full-sized 51 x 152cm (20’’ x 60’’) running deck that provides plenty of space regardless of your stature making it feel nice and safe to pound on. It’s full-sized but at this price point we’d want and indeed expect to see an oversized running area so while in its own right it’s fine, once you’ve tested a model with a wider deck, you’ll appreciate the difference that this sort of budget can make. The 3.6 horsepower motor makes driving the running belt up to its max speed of 22kph (0 – 13.7mph) look and feel easy. The cushioning can be manually adjusted to give you something closer to a road running experience or a run that’s a lot kinder to your joints than that! This makes it good for both road marathon training and general fitness purposes. The incline has a relatively modest max setting of 12% and while this isn’t terrible, once again it falls behind many of its direct competitors which boast inclines of 15%, which is a noticeable difference. Overall the run that the T9.5 delivers is good and should suit a very wide range of runners.

The T9.5 console features an attractive 14″ full-color touch screen display which can be configured into several different display modes and is Android based making it reasonably familiar. The onboard workouts are divided into categories denoting the type of training you’ll be doing which makes it easy to choose the type of training you want to do. There are also target programs that allow you to set a target such as time, distance, pace, calories workouts and target heart rate. The T9.5 is of course iFit compatible. Subscribe to the iFit service and you can download more workouts, track your fitness improvements, and participate in races against other members. There’s also a great selection of personal trainer-led workout videos to choose from that are streamed to your console. Though we’ll warn you now that you need a good WiFi connection for this to work smoothly as we found out during testing. The T9.5 comes with a 12-month subscription to iFit included so if you buy this machine you’ll be able to test out the service before committing to paying for it.

Other features include compatible music port for iPod®/mp3 player, dual 2” speakers, Autobreeze workout fan, Bluetooth wireless receiver, hand grip pulse sensors and a lifetime frame, 10-year motor and 2-year on-site parts and labour warranty.

Review Summary - In Brief

The NordicTrack T9.5 treadmill provides a high-quality run, has some nice features and makes a fine choice for a treadmill. You could could pick this machine at random and you'd probably be happy with it. Some aspects, like the adjustable cushioning and 14" screen are great. Other aspects are just standard fare for any self-respecting machine from mid-range and upwards. But it does also have iFit, and you get a years subsrciption too. All in all the verdict here is that this is a solid all-rounder that'll do a good job and is priced accordingly.
