Proform 500 CX Treadmill Review

The Proform 500 CX Treadmillhas rapidly gained popularity in the UK market thanks to a combination of an impressive set of features and some very attractive price discounts offered by online retailers.

A stable machine with good build quality and the ProShox PlusTMImpact Absorption System will suit even the larger novice runner. The 500 CX has good sized running deck, re-assuring for new treadmill users, and folds away easily into a compact size for storage when not in use.

With built-in training programmes, top speed of 12mph and incline deck function it offers all but the most serious runner everything they need from a treadmill. The inclusion of the iFit Software Journal is another big positive for the 500CX. The software helps you keep track of your progress and plan out an effective training schedule to maximize what you get from your running.

Research shows you have a better chance to reach and stick to your training goals when you can measure and see your progress – it’s a nice touch.

Review Summary - In Brief

The Proform 500 CX is a very credible model offering most runners more than enough features and training opportunities. However, with current discounts by one major retailer on the higher spec Proform 585 V for the same price it no longer looks such good value.

Proform 500CX - User Reviews

The Pros

  • The folding mechanism and portability - a definite plus for those with limited space.
  • Easy-to-use console with one-touch speed and incline controls.
  • A good top speed and a challenging incline of 15% helped to vary the workouts burn off those calories.
  • Although some thought it could have had a more powerful motor, the 2hp commercial grade motor appears to be well up to the job.
  • The iFitTM training package was very popular with all reviewers, they felt it helped to motivate them as their progress was easy to measure.

The Cons

  • As yet very few!
  • With more competition in the mid-price range the 500CX no longer looks such good value for money.
  • Some thought a 2.5 hp motor would be better - although no reviewer reported any problems with the 2hp motor.
