Reebok Z9 Treadmill Review

The Reebok Z-Series of fitness equipment were introduced during the course of 2011 and have proven to be amazingly popular. There are three treadmills in the range with the Z9 being reviewed here being the top of the range. The most popular treadmill in the range has been the Reebok Z8 treadmill – so how will the Z9 compare?

Looking more closely at this treadmill, it’s certainly a really nice machine. It comes pretty much pre-assembled in the box and putting together is simple & quick. At its heart, there’s a 2 horsepower continuous duty motor, which makes easy work of powering the belt to its top speed of 10 miles per hour.

In terms of incline, the Z9 has 12 levels of powered incline. Both the speed and incline of the treadmill can be easily controlled through single button presses using the instant speed and incline keys on the console. A nice touch is that in addition to this, there are speed and incline adjustment buttons on the handlebars, making it easy to make small, quick changes during a run.

The running deck itself is 43cm (16.9″) wide and a decent 130cm (51″). This is both wider and longer than many compact sized treadmills and this size is certainly adequate for walking, jogging or running for all but the tallest users. The deck itself has nice cushioning and is pleasant to run on.

The console has a blue backlit LCD which provides feedback and we can confirm that the display is logically organised and easy to read. In terms of programs, the Z9 has 12 preset programs which control both the speed and the incline of the treadmill. Conveniently, the profiles of the programs are printed just below the display, making selection easy. In addition, there is a body fat test program which calculates your BMI.

The console has a pair of speakers built in and the folding mechanism is hydraulically assisted. The warranty is standard Reebok Fitness of 10 years motor and 2 years parts & labour.

Review Summary - In Brief

The Reebok Z9 treadmill is a nice machine. However, it's been around for quite a long time now and there are more compact, newer treadmills on the market. If it's compact you're after them the Z9 has some serious competition in the form of the the Viavito LunaRun which folds vertically making the footprint when folded an amazingly tiny 25cm x 70cm (9.8” x 27.5”) while at the same time providing an almost identical running surface to the and a true 10% incline. Alternatively, you can get a newer, better Reebok treadmill in the form of the Reebok i-Run 3
