Reebok T5.1 Folding Treadmill Review

The Reebok T5.1 means business. It’s got a large motor, comfortable belt, huge array of programmes and heart rate control to make sure each workout is as effective as possible – whatever your goals.

It’s got a large 2 horse power motor with continuous duty, making for a quieter and smoother workout. Continuous Duty means that because the motor isn’t under as much stress, it will ultimately last longer so you are really making a sound investment when choosing a treadmill with this feature.

The treadmill running area is a generous 50cm long and 140cm wide and the belt is Phenol coated. This, along with the multiple glued seams adds up to a very durable, cushioned belt.

This durability and high build quality all adds up to a mill that can handle a maximum user weight of 150kg.

We liked the cushioning on the T5.1. Reebok have used something called a “Swing Arm Suspension System” We won’t bore you with the technical mumbo jumbo, but instead just tell you that if you want a treadmill that looks after your joints, you can’t go wrong with the T5.1.

RFE have aimed this treadmill at a wide target audience and this is backed up by the number of profiles that you can store on the machine – 9 in total.

As well as the usual conventional controls to adjust the speed and incline during the workout, the T5.1 also includes motion control.

The motion control system is not just a gimmick, it’s quite a useful safety feature. It enables you to change the speed and incline by simply waving your hands over the sensors built into the handlebars. The speed goes up to 16 kph and the incline to an impressive 15%

We are big fans of heart rate control so well done Reebok for including it on the T5.1. The T5.1 has an integrated Polar receiver for precise EKG heart rate data, all displayed on the backlit display. Please note that our review model didn’t actually come supplied with a chest belt so please check with your retailer to avoid disappointment.

If you don’t have a chest belt, don’t panic though as the T5.1 does have hand grip pulse sensors. They are built into the console. Just grab hold of them and in a matter of moments your current heart rate will be there on the display.

The T5.1 has a huge amount of programmes. In total there are 11 programmes that cover time distance and calories targets as well as interval programmes that adjust the speed and incline. These are in addition to a weight reduction programme and a one that is heart rate controlled. A self learning programme covers a 5k distance in a competition format and you can adjust the speed and incline during your run. Finally there are 3 programmes that can be totally customised by the user. We have to say that this should be more than enough for any runner, even up to club standard.

The display on the T5.1 adds a touch of class. Its backlit and we think that this really helped keep an eye on our performance. As you would expect the screen gives you all the data you need including current speed, workout time elapsed, incline, (theoretical) calories consumed and that all important heart rate.

A large majority of treadmills on the market today fold away when not in use, but not all of them fold as neatly or as simply as the T5.1. Its “soft drop” folding system is hydraulically assisted to save space and effort. When folded the mill takes up 110cm x 95cm x 165cm (L x W x H) Another neat touch is that the integrated wheels pop out automatically when the treadmill is folded, so moving it is a doddle.

As you would expect when buying a treadmill from a market leader, you have a decent warranty. The T5.1 comes with a 2 year parts and labour cover, with a further 10 years guarantee on the motor and a lifetime on the frame.
