Roger Black Gold Treadmill Review

The Roger Black Gold treadmill unfortunately doesn’t have anything in common with Roger Black. We’re all big fans of the athlete and TV presenter but we couldn’t get enthusiastic about this treadmill.

It does have some useful features such as calorie counter, heart rate, 3 target programmes and 3 pre-set programmes but certainly nothing more than you’d find on other machines costing much less.

It’s easy to operate and has nothing to confuse the first time treadmill user but by the same token this could mean there’s nothing clever about it either.

It’s top speed of 8.6 mph would be sufficient for novice runners or joggers but some of our reviewers questioned whether this was accurate. When approaching the higher speeds they also felt the running deck jump a little – not good when you’re running fast!   We feel this could really only be useful for walkers or light joggers. Even with some hefty price discounts on eBay it can’t compete with the Reebok i Run. In fact, apart from Argos few retailers stock this treadmill which is not a good sign.

If your budget can stretch a little further the ProForm 3.6 or BH Fitness Galileo both offer great value for money and include more pre-set programmes to get you into the all-important fat-burning zone.

The Gold treadmill comes with a one year on site warranty on parts and labour which is the very least you would expect as we’ve had reports of mechanical faults early on. We recommend you check the finer details of the warranty with the retailer before purchase.

Review Summary - In Brief

The Roger Black Gold treadmill is a big disappointment and it's a shame such a talented athlete and flag flyer for the UK has his name associated with it. It may be suitable if used for light jogging or walking but we can't recommend it for more than that. Due to poor performance and bad press you can pick them up for less than half the original price but it still doesn't compare favourably with other similar priced machines - see our Treadmill Comparison Table

The Pros

  • Not much:-
  • The large LCD display was easy to read.
  • The controls were straight forward and easy to use..
  • It looks the part - but that's about the sum of it.

The Cons

  • Poor value for money - even with big discounts.
  • The wobbling deck at the top speeds.
  • The running deck is a little small.
  • Some felt the top speed is a little slow at 8mph - although beginners and walkers will not find this a problem.
