York Fitness T301 Diamond Treadmill Review

The York Fitness T301 Diamond treadmill is the entry model to the Diamond range and they don’t call it that for nothing! York have pulled all the stops out on this one and we were pretty impressed by the result.

York describe it as ‘high speed, high performance and high comfort’ and we’d just about agree with their ad people on that. Its top speed of 11 mph should challenge most runners especially if you tilt the deck up to the top notch on 12% incline.

The 2.5 HP motor is smooth and relatively quiet at the top end and you can rest assured that it’s a quality motor because York are happy to cover it for 10 years under its warranty. Now there’s a sign of their faith in it.

The running deck is wide and feels comfortable with its adjustable cushion system so you can choose just how much you want to reduce the impact on your joints.

The T301 comes with a good selection of 20 programmes including the ever popular heart rate controlled options to keep you training in your optimum results zone for fitness and weightloss. This model is compatible with a chest strap (not included) so you can use the wireless telemetric heart rate sensor to monitor your pulse. This is more preferable than having to hold the grips that not only break your stride but are also less accurate.

Variation in your training is key to getting to your fitness targets and with 20 programmes to choose from your interest and motivation should be maintained.

The console is well laid out and has a large, backlit LCD window plus 3 smaller LED windows to display everything you need to know. The console also has a port for your MP3 player and built-in speakers which is a nice touch.

The warranty is excellent. As standard, it comes with a one year on site warranty, with is extended to three years on site cover when the product is registered with York within 28 days.

Review Summary - In Brief

York Fitness is a tried and tested name in the exercise world and you know that you'll get a reliable and durable machine with them. We liked the T301 a lot and were split down the middle on how it matched up against its rivals. The nearest competitor would be the Reebok T4.2 treadmill which is available at the same price. The York T301 has a more powerful motor and longer running deck as well, but on the downside, the Reebok has better cushioning. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the York T301, specially at under £800 which is the price at which it currently seems to be available for!

The Pros

  • The T301 felt stable and solid even at 11 mph.
  • The display is well designed and laid out.
  • The MP3 station.
  • The large running deck was comfortable to run on.

The Cons

  • There wasn't really much that we didn't like and it would only be very minor quibbles that we could put here for the sake of it.
