NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill Review

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 is a high-end heavy-duty treadmill designed for domestic use. Yep, we know, the name would imply that it’s a commercial machine but it’s not. However, the specifications reveal that it is truly built to a light-commercial standard – hence the name. Now that we’ve got that cleared up, what’s it like? Short answer – good. Long answer…………

Like all treads, the C2450 requires assembly. Being a NordicTrack product it’s not surprising that we didn’t encounter any issues during the installation process and that the instructions make complete sense and are easy to follow. 35 minutes after opening the box we were ready to embark on a maiden run.

Whatever your size, you won’t be pushed for space on this treadmill. There’s a generously proportioned 55 x 152cm (21.6″ x 59.8″) running deck which is more than plenty for anyone that doesn’t have a special requirement. The belt is driven by a powerful 4.0 horsepower motor which made light work of every single tester that stepped on board. Even when set to the maximum, and rather monstrous, 15% incline and with runners of well over 100kg stamping away it seemed not to bat an eyelid. There’s also a -3% decline function on the C2450 which helps to simulate real-world conditions on your run, something that’s bound to be of interest to the more hardcore runners out there. The run this treadmill delivers is very good and that’s not just because you’ve got acres of space to move around on, it’s also because the cushioning on this model is NordicTrack’s proprietary FlexSelect system that makes it possible to change the settings from high-impact absorption to road simulation. It works well and there’s a very noticeable difference depending on the setting so this isn’t just a gimmick. This is also a quiet treadmill and that’s down to the large motor never having to strain and the large 2.5″ diameter front and rear rollers which do a great job of eliminating “whine” and help to increase the lifespan of the machine by allowing for slower rotation at higher speeds. When set to its maximum speed of 22kph it’s still really not that loud which really does highlight the quality of the internal components used here. All of these elements come together to deliver a really comfortable and always challenging run.

It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get bored running on this particular treadmill because NordicTrack has fitted a 10″ HD touchscreen display that’s used to interact with the menus. There are also hard buttons that allow for quick selection of speed an incline settings with a single press and controls for the stereo speakers and 2-speed cooling fan. That 10″ touch-screen is great, making it effortless to access the different workouts. It’s worth noting here however that all the available workouts are streamed to the console so you’ll need a WiFi connection to access them. The manual mode doesn’t need a connection, but all the other workouts do.  Even more training options are available via the subscription-based iFit interactive training service. Subscribe to iFit (subscription sold separately) and you can download even more workouts, track your fitness improvements, plot your own running routes anywhere around the world using Google maps and access a whole range of other features such as dietary advice and personal trainer developed 8-week fitness programs. There’s also a large library of more than thousands of HD videos featuring pro personal trainers that run through exotic global locations staying with you and encouraging and motivating you and we found these to be really entertaining and effective. There’s also a Bluetooth connection available so you can connect a smart device and access your iFit account while running. iFit does a whole lot more than this and if you want to know the details it’s worth visiting the iFit website for all the details.

There’s also an accessories tray, dual water bottle holders and a stabilising crossbar for increased stability. The C2450 is also covered by NordicTrack’s lifetime frame, 10-year motor and 2-year on-site parts and labour warranty.

Review Summary - In Brief

It's easy to like the NordicTrack Commercial 2450. It's got a large running area, a quiet motor, adjustable cushioning, a 10" full-colour touch-screen, and it's got solid build quality. This is a very good machine, especially if you like the idea of interactive training. But, its bigger brother and the next model up in the range, the NordicTrack Commercial 2950 gives you a larger motor, the same +15% / -3% incline/decline system, the same 2.5" rollers, and a much larger 22" full-colour touch-screen. For a bit more, the higher-specced, top of the range, C2950 instead looks very attractive and well worth taking a look at thanks to the current offer.
